Peoples Bank board members and employees gathered Wednesday for a small groundbreaking ceremony for the new operations facility in Indianola scheduled to open in December.
Standing six feet apart to observe social distancing because of the coronavirus pandemic, Peoples Bank President Kevin Halterman remarked the need for additional space is more important than ever.
“Even before the pandemic began we were at mass capacity, and space was limited,” Halterman said. “Now we have room to grow.”
The current branch opened in 2004 and houses 35 employees. The new 5,000 square-foot facility will house the bank’s operations and finance department with office space, a training area, meeting rooms, and room for a future call center. A small group of employees will move from the existing branch to the operations center in December.
Downing Construction is leading the project with 70 percent of the work completed by local contractors.
"This truly is a community project," he said. "Now, more than ever, we need to support our local contractors, and keep as much of the work locally as possible."
